Selecting a Flow Meter

The basis of good flowmeter selection is a clear understanding of the requirements of the particular application. Therefore, time should be invested in fully evaluating the nature of the process fluid and of the overall installation.

Some of the important questions which needed to be known before selecting a flowmeter:

• Fluid being measured by the flowmeter?
• Required Measurement of rate or totalization from the flow meter?
• The subject fluid is clean or viscous
• What is the max & min process pressure & temperature range?
• Size of the line or application specification to determine correct flow metering
• If the liquid is not water, what viscosity is the liquid?
• If any electric Signal output is required or a local display on the flow meter?
• Cost of flowmeter including installation
• Compatibility of fluid with the flowmeter?
